Almodovar wins Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival with film based on Sigrid Nunez's novel

Pedro Almodóvar wins the Golden Lion at the 81st Venice Film Festival for The Room Next Door, his first film in English, starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. The film, a drama about euthanasia inspired by the novel Attraverso la vita (Garzanti) by Sigrid Nunez, tells the story of two friends who meet again after years: Martha, seriously ill with cancer, asks Ingrid to stay with her until the end, when she decides to end her life.

To Paolo Rumiz the Special Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024 from the Fondazione Il Campiello

The Fondazione Il Campiello has decided to award the Special Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024, which has been awarded since 2010 by the foundation of the same name to a distinguished personality of contemporary Italian literary culture, to Paolo Rumiz. The award will be presented at the final of the 62nd edition of the Campiello Prize, scheduled for Saturday 21 September at the “Gran Teatro La Fenice” in Venice.

The series based on Antonio Scurati’s “M. Il figlio del secolo”, directed by Joe Wright and starring Luca Marinelli as Benito Mussolini, will have its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The series is produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment/Fremantle, in co-production with Pathé, in association with Small Forward Productions, Cinecittà S.p.A. and Sky.
